Some young local American Legion talent will put their skills on display on Tuesday during the annual Rawlings Showcase games at CCSU.
The 9 a.m. game will feature a slew of players from the Bristol, Waterbury and Wolcott senior division teams. From Bristol, there is pitcher Wesley Lahey, third baseman/pitcher Andrew Owsianko and left fielder/pitcher Zachary Marquis. Waterbury will be represented by catcher/pitcher Joevanni Torres and outfielder/pitcher Peyton Stephens. Wolcott’s lone representative is outfielder/pitcher Steve Urbanski. All of these players are incoming seniors in high school. They will suit up for Team Red and will play against Team Navy.
There is another game between incoming seniors at 12:30 p.m.
At 4 p.m., a trio of locals from the Class of 2018 will get a chance to play. Bristol lists shortstop/pitcher Cory Fradette as a participant. There’s also catcher/second baseman Evan Laferriere of Waterbury and shortstop/second baseman Nick Longo of Wolcott. Those players will suit up for the Americans and play against the Nationals.
College coaches from around the area take in the games, as do some pro scouts.
The three games will be played on the turf of CCSU’s Balf-Savin Field. It will be a hot day, according to the National Weather Service website, which is calling for a high temperature of around 94.
