Former Bristol Eastern star Khadaijia Brooks is back on the court for the Marshall University women’s basketball team, and she is already having an impact.
Brooks, who had a knee injury and wound up redshirting last season, has played in and started all five games for Marshall so far. She is averaging 8.2 points per game and 5.6 rebounds in 23.4 minutes. Brooks began the season with a double-double of 16 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks in a loss to Indiana State.
“I was really nervous,” Brooks told The Parthenon’s Derek Gilbert following the game. “I haven’t really played a whole game with the atmosphere of a crowd in a year. It was really good for me.”
The Parthenon is the school newspaper at Marshall. The Herd had a rough Sunday afternoon in a 74-52 road loss to the Appalachian State Mountaineers, but Brooks tied her career-high with four 3-pointers on her way to 12 points. She started the game, played 20 minutes, and was 4-of-7 shooting, all three-point attempts. Brooks grabbed three rebounds and added a steal.
