Temple football junior Isaiah Wright couldn’t have scripted a better Connecticut homecoming than what occurred on Saturday against UConn at Pratt Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford.
Wright, a former Holy Cross and Kingswood-Oxford standout who was chosen as a game captain during the week, scored the first two times he touched the ball. On a 1st and 10 from the UConn 18 on Temple’s opening possession, Wright took an option pitch and sprinted 18 yards down the left sideline for the game’s opening touchdown. After the Huskies scored a touchdown to tie the game at 7-7, they kicked off to Wright at the Owl one-yard line. Wright made one quick cut between the Temple 35 and 40-yard line and raced untouched down the middle of the field for a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. The kickoff return for a score was the third touchdown return this season for Wright.
Wright only touched the ball two more times the rest of the way, but Temple didn’t need much help in a 57-7 demolition of UConn. The Owls finished the regular season 8-4, 7-1 in the American Athletic Conference. In 12 games, Wright rushed 19 times for 93 yards and a touchdown and caught 33 passes for 368 yards and three touchdowns. On special teams, Wright returned 18 punts for 251 yards and two touchdowns, with a long of 73 yards. He returned 28 kickoffs for 725 yards and the touchdown against UConn.
Temple waits to find out where it will be playing in a bowl game.
