St. Paul girls volleyball became the first varsity team to play inside the new gym on Maltby Street on Friday night.
And oh what a night it was. The Falcons rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Wolcott Eagles 3-2.
“GREAT way to break in the new NEST!! Volleyball defeated Wolcott 3-2 #gofalcons #ctvb #nvl” read a tweet from the St. Paul athletics account.
New floors, new paint and new bleachers are among the features in the new Nest. Judging by pictures, the new gym is bright, and it is loud, according to posts on Twitter from Friday night’s volleyball match.
St. Paul improved to 4-1 on the season. The Falcons are led by coach Devin Pecevich.
St. Paul also needed five sets on Tuesday to defeat Torrington 3-2. Senior Rebecca Nerbonne, junior Alexis Carabetta and sophomore Greta Panke helped the Falcons get past the Raiders on that night. St. Paul also has wins over Oxford and Watertown. The only loss for the Falcons came against Naugatuck on Sept. 11.
After a road match at Waterbury Career Academy on Sept. 25, St. Paul returns to the Nest to play Woodland on Sept. 27 at 6:15 p.m. After a great debut, the Falcons will be looking forward to another match inside their new gym.
