The Class MM and Class S outdoor track and field championship meets were held on Wednesday and Thursday, and one state championship was claimed.
On Thursday, the Holy Cross boys 4×100-meter relay of senior Marckens Auguste, senior Marckenslee Auguste, senior DeAndre Wallace, and sophomore Shawn Austin claimed gold after posting a time of 42.97 seconds. The winning relay helped the Crusaders finish fifth as a team in the Class S meet, which was won by fellow NVL member Derby for the second straight year.
Wallace claimed silver in the 100 meters and high jump. Marckens Auguste took silver in the triple jump and bronze in the 300 hurdles.
The Sacred Heart boys were third as a team behind first place Derby and second place Bloomfield. Junior Edward Williams claimed silver in the 110 hurdles and finished fourth in the 300 hurdles. Junior Kladji Cepa took silver in the discus. Senior Mechai Hayes earned bronze in the 200 meters and 400 meters. Senior Jonathan Warren finished in fourth place in the 1600.
The Holy Cross girls finished ninth in Class S as a team. Senior Meah Austin took silver in the 100 hurdles and finished sixth in the 300 hurdles. Freshman Raquel Rosa was fourth in the 200 meters and tied for fourth in the 400 meters.
St. Paul senior Vincent Penisse was sixth in the pole vault.
Sacred Heart junior Jenna French finished fourth in the 1600.
The Wolcott boys had two third place finishes in the Class MM meet on Wednesday. Senior Robert Snide claimed bronze in the javelin and freshman Nicholas Bendsten took bronze in the 3200.
TUESDAY
The Wolcott and Kaynor Tech girls competed in Class M.
Eagle sophomore Kathryn Rodrigues finished fourth in the 1600 and fifth in the 3200. Panther senior Zyiera Brown was sixth in the 300 hurdles.
