It’s coming down to the wire for the Kaynor Tech, Wolcott, Bristol Eastern and Wilby boys basketball teams.
All four still have a chance at making the state tournament with a losing record, but there is work to be done.
Kaynor Tech sits at 7-9 and has four games left to play. The Panthers need one win to reach the Division IV state tournament. Kaynor has games against Kennedy (5-12) on Friday, Seymour (8-8) on Feb. 20 and Woodland (7-10) on Feb. 22. There is also a game against Amistad (8-6) that needs to be rescheduled. The bad news for the Panthers is that the Kennedy game on Friday is the only one of the four they will play at home.
At 7-10, Wolcott is in the second-best position given it needs one win with three games left to play. The Eagles have a tough game tonight at Naugatuck (10-7). On Feb. 20, Wolcott meets up with another team challenging for a state tournament spot, Wilby. The Wildcats are 6-11 and need two wins in their final three games to get in. The Wolcott-Wilby game is a home contest for Wolcott.
The Eagles finish the regular season on Feb. 22 at Ansonia (4-13). Wolcott is in Division III.
Wilby’s final three games are against WCA (11-6, tonight at WCA), Wolcott on Feb. 20, and home against Seymour (8-8) on Feb. 22. The Wildcats will attempt to get a spot in the Division II state tournament.
Bristol Eastern is 7-11 and needs one win in its final two games to qualify for the Division III state tournament. Neither game will be easy. The Lancers play at New Britain (13-5) on Friday. The regular season finale is home on Feb. 19 against city rival Bristol Central (15-3). A win in either game, however, puts Eastern in the state tournament.
