FRIDAY FOOTBALL: Hove, Wolcott collect first win

Wolcott football gave Matt Hove his first victory as head coach on Friday night with a 48-22 win over Kennedy on the turf of Joe Monroe Field.
Anthony Ligi ran for a touchdown for Wolcott (1-1), but it was 89-yard kickoff return for a score that got the home crowd fired up. Ligi looked like he was going down, but he escaped a pile-up, changed sides, and scampered for the score. Click here to see video of Ligi’s touchdown.
On defense, Wolcott’s Dean Howell and Justin Pawlak chased down the quarterback for a sack, which can also been seen in the highlight package from CT Sports Now.
Rakeem Henry had a short rushing touchdown for Kennedy, which dropped to 0-2.

Windsor 29, Bristol Central 19
The Rams took an early 7-0 lead and trailed 14-13 at the half, but the Warriors (2-0) pulled away in the second half for the road victory.
Dathan Hickey accounted for all three touchdowns for Central, including the first one ever on the turf at Bristol Centtral High School with 3:48 left in the first quarter. Here’s a cool photo of the touchdown from BCHS Principal Pete Wininger.
Hickey also ran a kickoff back 91 yards for a score. The Rams dropped to 1-1 with the loss.

Torrington 50, Wilby 14
It was a rough night on the road for the Wildcats, who fell to 0-2.
Kenny Figueroa and Dashaun Wilson hooked up for a touchdown pass for Wilby. Rackwon James ran for a touchdown and a two-point conversion.

Middletown 35, Bristol Eastern 0
Justin Marshall had a solid first half throwing the ball, but the Lancers (0-2) couldn’t put points on the board and the Blue Dragons clamped down on defense in the second half at Rosek-Skubel Stadium in Middletown.

Ansonia 54, Waterbury Career Academy 6
Matt Torres threw a touchdown pass to Jessah Doctor early in the second quarter for the Spartans, who dropped to 1-1.
WCA played hard, but Ansonia just had way too much firepower and improved to 2-0.
