Waterbury Municipal Stadium, specifically Bob Palmer Field, has been a busy baseball scene over the past few weeks.
Bristol’s Muzzy Field has also seen plenty of amateur hardball from the Blues to hosting a few games during the AABC’s Mickey Mantle World Series.
Tomorrow, the American Legion Northeast Regional returns to Muzzy with four games. The host is Seicheprey Post 2, and Post 2 will play the final game of the afternoon doubleheader against the Rhode Island state champion. The doubleheader begins at 4:30 with Connecticut state champion RCP (Rocky Hill, Cromwell, Portland) taking on Pittsfield, the Massachusetts ‘B’ state champ.
Rochester, the New Hampshire champion, will open the tournament at 9:30 a.m. against the Maine champ. The second game of the morning doubleheader pits Massachusetts ‘A’ state champion Shrewsbury against Vermont winner Brattleboro.
The losers play in the first two games Thursday, beginning at 9:30 a.m. They will be followed by two games between the winners of tomorrow’s contests, and those start at 4:30 p.m.
Bristol hopes for a better run in the regional after it lost in the second game of the state’s Northern Division “Sectional” 1-0 to Glastonbury at Muzzy.
Post 2 head coach Jerry LaPenta gave his team a week off after the Glastonbury loss to get away. He hopes the rest will pay off as Bristol attempts to advance to the World Series.
