The Sacred Heart boys basketball team once again ventures out of state this evening for a in-season tournament game.
The Hearts play Long Island Lutheran of New York at Baruch College at 5:45 p.m. in the final game of the Big Apple Basketball High School Invitational. Sacred Heart gets a great opportunity to play at a school within view of the United Nations on the east side of Manhattan.
Come game time, however, the Hearts will be looking to avoid something very unfamiliar to them in recent years — a losing streak. Sacred Heart lost for the first time in its last 41 games on Saturday, 82-80 to Foothills Christian of California. Foothills lost by two points earlier this season to top-ranked Chino Hills, also from California.
Long Island Lutheran comes into the game with a 12-2 record, including a loss to former USA Today Super Top 25 school Wheeler of Marietta, Ga. LuHi, as they are also known, is led by Indiana commit Devonte Green. MSG Varsity listed Green as one of its three stars from Long Island last year as a junior. He was the tema’s leading scorer, rebounder and had a knack for stealing the ball.
It should be another interesting game for Sacred Heart this evening. After a three-day break from games, the Hearts return to NVL play on Friday with a 7 p.m. home game against Naugatuck.
