The Bristol Eastern girls volleyball team made a valiant comeback attempt against Platt on Thursday night, but they came up just short in a 3-2 Class L state semifinal loss at the Sports and Medical Sciences Academy in Hartford.
The No. 6 Lancers lost the first two sets, 21-25 and 19-25, to the No. 7 Panthers. Eastern was in trouble, but it rallied to take the third and fourth sets by scores of 25-23 and 25-17 to even the match. It all came down to the fifth and deciding set, and the Panthers had just enough to hold off the Lancers.
Platt moves on to the state final, where it will face either No. 1 RHAM or No. 5 Farmington on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Berlin High School.
Eastern ends it season with a record of 18-5 and a fourth straight appearance in the state semifinals. The Lancers graduate Bailey Wyrebek, Angela Daley, Megan Gettings, Kamryn McLaughlin, Paisley Tucker, Brittany Soleck and Chyna Barrett.
