Holy Cross guard Peyton Mullins had just six points during Thursday night’s NVL Brass Division home game against Crosby, but three of them gave his team the victory.
Trailing by two points with 1.1 seconds left, Mullins took an inbound pass from the baseline and quickly launched a 3-pointer in front of the Crusader bench. The shot hit nothing but net, and Holy Cross players stormed the court to celebrate the 63-61 win with Mullins.
The Crusaders improved to 13-4 and in the process snapped the Bulldogs’ nine-game winning streak. Holy Cross has won four straight games. Crosby fell to 13-3 with the tough loss. It was the second time this season that the Bulldogs have lost a game by two points in the final seconds. Crosby fell, 76-74, at Newtown on Jan. 6.
Nate Muniz led Holy Cross with 17 points. Ashton Sannasi (14) and Elijah Parker (13) also hit double figures. Kevin Matiz joined Mullins with six points while Joe Dane added five points.
Crosby’s Jonathan Rivera led all scorers with 30 points. Khani Glenn and Chris Spears each added 10 points while Jason Robinson chipped in seven points.
