It’s not often you can say you did something that no one has done in three decades.
Ty Flowers can say that after Friday night’s 92-85 overtime loss to Wagner College. The former Sacred Heart High standout and current Long Island University graduate student became the first Division I men’s basketball player in 30 years to rack up 1,500 points, 750 rebounds, 250 assists, 200 3-pointers, 150 blocks and 150 steals for his career. Those are some very impressive numbers.
“No way Ty can fit his (basketball emoji) resume on one page,” read a tweet from the Northeast Conference.
LIU is tied for third in the Northeast Conference with Merrimack College at 4-3. The Sharks are 7-10 overall through 17 games. Nine teams in the 10-team conference will make the postseason tournament, scheduled to be contested on March 2, 5 and 8 with all games at higher seeds.
Flowers is averaging 22.7 points per game in NEC play, second to only Bryant’s Peter Kiss. Flowers and Kiss were the NEC Co-Players of the Week this past week. Flowers is also averaging 7.3 rebounds per game in NEC play, which ranks him 11th.
When all games are factored in, Flowers is third in scoring (18.2 ppg) and sixth in rebounding (6.9 rpg).
