It wasn’t a good night for the Holy Cross baseball and softball teams on Wednesday at Naugatuck High School.
The No. 2 baseball team lost to top-seeded Oxford 9-3. On the softball diamond, the second-seeded Crusaders were blanked 6-0 by No. 1 Seymour and star pitcher Raeanne Geffert.

BASEBALL
Oxford 9, Holy Cross 3: Matt Bonvicini was 3-for-3 at the plate for the Crusaders in their loss to the Wolverines.
Bonvicini had a solo home run and two doubles for Holy Cross (18-5). Tim Zupkus continued his hot hitting with two hits, including a double, and two RBI.
The Crusaders tallied a run in the top of the first inning, only to see the Wolverines get three of their own in the bottom frame. Holy Cross never got closer than 4-2 the rest of the way.

SOFTBALL
Seymour 6, Holy Cross 0: The Crusaders had just two hits off of the star right-hander Geffert, who struck out 12 and walked just one.
Sarah Lawton pitched all six innings, struck out three and walked three for Holy Cross (20-3). Lawton and Allie Brown had the only hits for the Crusaders.
