Here’s a look at what’s been going on with the area fall sports teams.
GIRLS SOCCER
Wolcott lost for the first time this season in a match against Woodland, but the Eagles are still in great standing. Wolcott is 6-1-3, which gives it the second best record in the NVL.
Holy Cross is not far behind at 5-2-3. The Eagles and Crusaders played to two ties this season.
St. Paul is 4-3-2 and looking to get closer to clinching a state tournament spot.
Sacred Heart started the season with six straight losses, but has won two of its last four matches.
Bristol Eastern is 5-4-1 and is close to clinching a state tournament berth. The Lancers, led by first-year head coach Scott Redman, have a solid 4-1-1 record in the CCC South Blue Division.
Bristol Central, led by first-year head coach Ginny Godbout, is 5-5 overall, 3-3 in the division, and on the verge of a state tournament spot.
BOYS SOCCER
The Wolcott boys are also having a good season at 6-2-2. The Eagles have four great teams in front of them — Oxford, Naugatuck, Woodland and Watertown.
Holy Cross and Kennedy both sit at 4-6, with Sacred Heart and St. Paul is 3-6-1. Crosby is 2-6-1, WCA is 1-8, and Wilby is 0-9.
Bristol Central is 4-4-2 overall, 3-2-1 in the CCC South Blue Division. The Rams are looking to clinch a tournament berth under first-year head coach Nate Jandreau.
Bristol Eastern is 4-4-1, 3-1-1 in the division. The Lancers are looking for another state tournament berth under longtime head coach Bill Sweet.
In the CSC, Kaynor Tech picked up its first win of the season last Friday. The Panthers are 1-9.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Bristol Eastern is in the middle of another good season. The Lancers are 9-2, and a perfect 6-0 in the CCC South Blue Division. Eastern has won four straight matches, but big tests await.
Bristol Central is 4-7 under first-year head coach Holly Willette. The Rams are 3-3 in the division and are hoping to make a run at the state tournament.
In the NVL, Kennedy has the best record of area teams at 10-3. The Eagles are looking to get back on track after two losses in their last four matches.
Wolcott is 7-4 and needs one more win to get into the state tournament. Teams must win 40 percent of their matches to qualify.
Holy Cross is 5-6 and pushing toward a state tournament berth. St. Paul is 4-7 under first-year head coach Ashley Blumenthal. WCA is 1-11 and Wilby is 0-12.
At 6-7, Kaynor Tech is on the cusp of a state tournament spot.
CROSS COUNTRY
Both the Bristol Central girls and boys cross country teams are looking to finish undefeated in the CCC South Blue Division. To do so, the Rams must get past rival Bristol Eastern in the City Championship meet at Rockwell Park on Thursday. St. Paul will also be at that meet. The CCC Championships are next week at Wickham Park in Manchester.
In the NVL, both the Kennedy (10-2) and Holy Cross (10-3) boys teams are having solid seasons.
In NVL girls, Holy Cross (9-2) leads the way. St. Paul is 6-4 while Wolcott is 7-5. First-year varsity WCA is 6-5.
For Waterbury teams, the City Championships are Friday at Montoe Park. The NVL meet is
next week.
For Kaynor Tech, the CSC Championships are next week.
SWIMMING AND DIVING
Bristol Eastern and Bristol Central each just picked up their second win of the season last week. Both did it against the Meriden Co-op. The Lancers and Rams have their meet against each other on Oct. 25, then meet up with St. Paul for the city meet on Oct. 29.
