The magical ride continues for St. Paul softball in the Class S state tournament.
The No. 9 Falcons stunned top-seeded East Granby 7-3 on Saturday afternoon at East Granby High School in a quarterfinal round game. St. Paul is headed to the semifinals, and many outside of the Falcon camp would be shocked.
St. Paul used a big three-run sixth inning to put the game away. The Falcons entered the frame ahead 4-3, but extended their advantage to 7-3 by the time it was over. Brigid Johndrow, Abby Poirot, Brooke Perez and Katelynn Oullette each had two hits for a St. Paul offense that continues to hum.
Alessandra Milardo picked up her third straight tournament win and struck out nine.
St. Paul faces No. 12 Coventry on Monday at 7 p.m. at Biondi Field in West Haven.

BASEBALL
Holy Cross keeps on rolling: The top-seeded Crusaders made quick work of No. 8 Thomaston in a Class S quarterfinal Saturday and won 10-1.
Adam Razza tripled twice in a three-hit day and drove in two runs. Fran Phelan doubled, singled and drove in two runs while Matt Bonvicini tripled, singled and plated three runs. Tim Zupkus, Brian Parczyk and Matt Cipriano each had a hit and RBI in the victory. Phelan scored three times while Razza and Parczyk crossed home two times each.
Chris Flynn fired a complete game and gave up a single run on seven hits. He struck out six and walked just one in a solid effort.
Holy Cross faces No. 5 Housatonic, a 7-6 winner over No. 4 St. Paul, in a semifinal game on Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Bristol’s Muzzy Field.

St. Paul falls in stunner: The fourth-seeded Falcons led 6-3 after five innings on a three-run bomb by Andrew Owsianko, but the lead didn’t last.
Housatonic scored four times in the sixth on one hit, three hits and a big two-out error that cleared the bases. St. Paul, the defending Class S state champion, went down 1-2-3 in its last two times up and saw its season come to a shocking and disappointing end.
