The Valley Thunder were 1-11 entering Sunday’s Tri-State League doubleheader against Blasius Chevrolet and the East Mountain Cougars.
Blasius entered the game at Prospect’s Hotchkiss Field with a nine-game winning streak. Valley ended it with an 8-5 victory behind 4-for-4, RBI and three runs scored by Donny Ek. Spenser Griffin was 2-for-4 with four RBI to help the Thunder get the win. Matt Meier struggled with his command early, but righted the ship and threw a complete game.
Ending a nine-game winning streak would make for a good day normally, but Valley went one game better on Sunday.
Ricky Parenteau went 2-for-3 with a RBI in the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader, and he also scored the game-winning run. |
Playing at Wolcott’s Tyrrell Middle School, the Thunder trailed the Cougars 3-0 but rallied to walk off with a 4-3 win. Matt Meier brought home Ricky Parenteau with the winning run in a connection of former Wolcott High players. Meier finished the game 2-for-4 while Parenteau was 2-for-3 with a RBI. Victor Catano was splendid in five innings of relief (7 strikeouts) and picked up the victory.
It’s been a trying season for the Valley Thunder, but a long Sunday proved to be the best day yet.
