Blasius Chevrolet walked off of Prospect’s Hotchkiss Field on Sunday with a Tri-State doubleheader split.
Blasius shut out the Burlington Hunters 3-0 in the first game behind a masterful performance by left-hander Joey Serafin. In the second game, the Valley Thunder ended Blasius’ nine-game win streak by a score of 8-5.
Blasius is 10-4 on the season after the split. In the first game of Sunday’s double dip, the offense did just enough, and Serafin took care of the rest. Serafin struck out 13 and didn’t surrender a walk. He needed just 87 pitches to navigate seven innings and yielded just two singles.
Serafin started the game by striking out the first four batters he faced. Blasius finally pushed across a run against Burlington starter Alex Hansen in the bottom of the fourth inning. Dwight Wildman and Paul Novakowski singled to start the inning. After a force out at third, Luis Serrano singled to load the bases for Matt Wahl. Wahl lofted a RBI single over third to score Novakowski and put Blasius ahead 1-0.

A Justin McCulloch sac fly scored Steve Carosella in the fifth for a 2-0 lead. A Jeff Fonti fielder’s choice in the sixth scored Novakowski to make it 3-0.
That was all Serafin needed in what was a dominant effort. Serafin used his assortment of pitches effectively and changed the eye level of the Burlington hitters throughout.
In the second game, Blasius put up five runs, but couldn’t get past a Valley team that had one win entering the contest. The Thunder improved to 2-11 with the victory.
