The Bristol Knights achieved their objective Monday night at Muzzy Field when they clinched the Connecticut Twilight League Central Division title.
Bristol used the dominant pitching of Chris McGrath and Mike Castellani to sweep the Wethersfield Dodgers and Willimantic Ridges. McGrath and Castellani combined for 23 strikeouts, two walks and allowed just four hits.
The Knights defeated the Dodgers 5-1, then took down the Ridges 4-1. McGrath and Castellani remained undefeated for the season. McGrath improved to 5-0 while Castellani moved to 4-0.
Wednesday night was another victory for Mother Nature. Strong thunderstorms cancelled games throughout the league, including Bristol’s matchup with Willimantic at Rec Park in Willimantic.
The CTL regular season is supposed to end on Friday. Bristol is scheduled to play Wethersfield at Bristol Eastern at 6 p.m. The only other day to play is Thursday, and no games are slated for that day so far. The playoffs begin next Monday, Aug. 7. Bristol will have a first round bye because it is a division winner.
While the end of the regular season will be determined in part by Mother Nature, the Knights took care of the Central Division with their doubleheader sweep on Monday.
