St. Paul baseball has regained its stride and is on a three-game winning streak.
The Falcons lost 5-4 to Sacred Heart last Monday at Municipal Stadium, but have won against Seymour, Torrington and Derby since.
St. Paul (13-2 overall, 11-2 NVL, 5-0 Copper Division) has a big game coming on Monday when it travels to French Park for a 3:45 game against Seymour. The Falcons won the first matchup 9-2 last Tuesday, and the Wildcats are sure to be ready on their home field for this one.
Playing for the fifth time in seven days, St. Paul won a 19-9 slugfest over Derby on Saturday. The Falcons needed every bit of offense they could muster, and several players contributed. Shaun Remillard went 4-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored, and his hit in the sixth ended the game via the 10-run rule. Ryan Parent was 3-for-3 with a double, four RBI and two runs scored. Julian Thayer went 2-for-3 with a double, four runs scored and two RBI, and Josh Cofrancesco was 2-for-5 with a RBI and run scored.
Along with playing a bunch of games, St. Paul also recognized a pair of seniors who will play at the college level. Ryan Greene signed his National Letter of Intent to Eastern Connecticut State University and Nick Morrell signed with Mitchell College.
Softball extended its win streak to 11 games with an 18-6 outburst at Derby on Thursday.
Jessica Persechino went off in the game with six hits, including two home runs and two triples. Katina Roy tripled twice and Lindsey O’Bright added two doubles. Freshman Caleigh McDougall made her first start, and notched her first win in the circle.
Speaking of win streaks, boys lacrosse made it 10 wins without a loss with a 24-4 home win over Holy Cross on Friday. The Falcon offense continues to hum with a state-high average of 18.9 goals per game, according to laxpower.com.
St. Paul has a pair of interesting matchups this week. The Falcons host North Branford (6-6) on Monday at 6 p.m., then play their Senior Night game on Wednesday at 6:30 against Northwest Catholic (7-3).
Girls lacrosse made history on Friday when it beat Lewis Mills 7-6.
The Falcons improved to 7-3, but more importantly secured the first postseason berth in the history of the girls program. Emma Cretella had three goals, Greta Panke scored twice, Ashley Suzio had two assists, and Maddy Bernier made nine saves.
St. Paul has won five of its last six games, including two straight over Wolcott and Mills on Thursday and Friday. The Falcons avenged a one-goal loss to the Spartans on Wednesday.
Girls tennis has won seven straight since a 4-3 loss to Watertown on April 18. The Falcons are 10-2, with the only other loss coming by a 4-3 count against undefeated Sacred Heart in the season opener on April 2.
No. 1 singles player Victoria Kilbourne recently signed her NLI to Queens University of Charlotte in North Carolina.
Boys golf will play its first match since April 30 on Tuesday afternoon when it takes on Torrington at the Torrington Country Club in Goshen at 2:30. The Falcons are 6-1, with the only loss coming on April 30, 174-190 against Holy Cross at Chippanee Golf Club. St. Paul has been led by junior Ryne Salius, who has had the team’s low round in nearly every match.
