St. Paul football closed the season in fitting fashion in its 44-22 win over Oxford at McPhee Field on Wednesday night.
The Falcons had three different rushers tally over 100 yards on the ground. Damien Rabis led the way with 131 yards. Kevin Ashworth rushed for 123 yards while teammate Connor Bogdanski had 119 yards. Chris Dionne also had a solid night with 58 yards rushing. Rabis and Dionne ran for two touchdowns while Ashworth and Bogdanski had one each.
Rabis and Dionne played in their final game for St. Paul, as did fellow seniors Eric Langland, Noah Mendoza, Darek Wiecki and Dom Aiello. Langland and Aiello were two key players on the offensive line, and Wiecki was a tight end.
You don’t do what St. Paul has done in the wishbone offense without great blocking, and the Falcons had that for much of the 2017 season. That’s how St. Paul finished with a 7-3 record, its best mark since the 8-3 state playoff team in 2009.

Sacred Heart/Kaynor Tech 42, Wilby 6
Tiron Ferris ran for 197 yards and four touchdowns in the blowout win by the Hearts. Sacred Heart (1-9) picked up the win in its season finale while Wilby ended at 0-10.
Trey Dawson threw for 117 yards and two touchdowns, one apiece to Sidney Asiedu and Tajeem Staley, both seniors. Ferris, also a senior, was the team’s offensive MVP for the game. Senior Aaron Medina was the defensive MVP for the Hearts.
Alexandre Gonzalez threw for 106 yards and ran for another 52 for Wilby. Gonzalez was the offensive MVP for the Wildcats.
For the second time in three years, the game ended with an altercation between the rivals.
