Donovan Clingan made a great impression during the NBA 2K5 Summer League, and he was recognized for his efforts.
Clingan, the former Bristol Central and UConn standout and No. 7 pick of the Portland Trail Blazers, was named to the NBA 2K5 All-Summer League Second Team as announced on Monday.
Clingan’s 12.3 rebounds per game were tops in the summer league. More impressive was his 4.3 blocks per game, the best mark in summer league history.
Aaron Fentress of The Oregonian gave Clingan a grade of B+ after the big man’s efforts in Las Vegas, which also includes an average of nine points per game. ESPN’s Kevin Pelton picked Clingan as the rookie who will have an immediate impact on his team.
“Although Clingan’s offense — and particularly his 3-point shooting — is still a work in progress, his rim protection will pay immediate dividends for a Portland Trail Blazers team that ranked 23rd in defensive rating last season,” Pelton said in an ESPN article posted Monday.
