The Bristol Central Invitational wrestling tournament was held Saturday at the Charles C. Marsh Gymnasium, and the lone local winner has a last name very familiar to area fans of the sport.
Lincoln Archibald, the son of former Central head coach Brian Archibald, pinned Pomperaug/Naugatuck/Watertown’s Ian Karlin in 1:35 to win the 157-pound weight class. Archibald helped the Rams earn a ninth place finish. East Hartford won the team championship. Central’s Aiden Lamarre was the runner-up at 150. Kaden Dragon finished fourth at 140, Joseph Niek took fourth at 132, and Alex Lamarre was fifth at 126.
Bristol Eastern claimed fourth place overall, led by a second place finish from Yussuf Bah at 106. Gabriel White (138) and Rio Fernandez (215) earned third place finishes while Owen Broyles (175) and Aidyn Davies (190) each placed fourth. Nuon Sovannara claimed fifth at 285.
Warrior Invitational
A pair of Holy Cross wrestlers put in solid efforts in Canton on Saturday.
Anthony Shivas pinned Canton’s Thomas Johnson in 3:01 to win the 285 weight class. Shivas helped the Derby/Oxford/Holy Cross co-op finish eighth as a team. Benjamin Iannantuoni claimed third place at 215.
Haddam-Killingworth won the team championship. St. Paul finished 14th out of 16 teams with no place winners.
