St. Paul boys soccer will host a jamboree today beginning at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic High School. The jamboree, which will have four teams in it, is being held to raise money for the Bristol Talks Teal Ovarian Awareness Campaign of Judie and Tony Lodovico, according to Scott Federowicz. Federowicz is the father of St. Paul senior goalkeeper Zach Federowicz.
In the month of September, Bristol sports numerous teal ribbons to help raise awareness for ovarian cancer. The cause is near and dear to Tony Lodovico, the former boys head soccer coach and athletic director at St. Paul. His wife, Judie, is an ovarian cancer survivor.
The Lodovicos started Bristol Talks Teal in 2013, and support for it has taken off since.
“The generosity of the people of Bristol motivated us to establish the Bristol Talks Teal Fund,” Tony Lodovico said in an article posted on the Main Street Community Foundation website. “We wanted to pay it forward, to give something back. We felt that it was important to keep the donations in Bristol. We are very proud of the way our community has embraced our attempt to raise awareness of ovarian cancer symptoms to help save women’s lives.”
The community’s embrace continues today at St. Paul with the soccer jamboree. Since he became head coach in 2013, St. Paul’s Tony Leone has wanted his team to give back to the community. The jamboree is yet another way to do so.
To raise money, the boys soccer booster club will be selling refreshments, according to an article posted on the Bristol Observer’s website.
