Bristol Eastern wrestling finishes second at Sabbagh tourney

Bristol Eastern wrestling finished second to Danbury at Danbury’s own Ryan Sabbagh Holiday Tournament on Saturday. The Hatters had 222 points while the Lancers tallied 201.

Justin Marshall (152 pounds) and Trinidad Gonzalez (220) won individual titles for Bristol Eastern. Marshall won two bouts by pin and another by technical fall on his way to a title. Gonzalez took his championship with three pins. Eric Dupee (99) wrestled in an unofficial four-man bracket and came out on top.

Trent Thompson (106), Carson Sassu (126) and Tom Nichols (132) all finished second for the Lancers. Mason Lishness (113), Alexander Marshall (145), Noah Piazza (160), Joseph Morelli (170) and Dylan Garcia (182) all took third place while Nick St. Peter (285) placed fourth.

Danbury and Bristol Eastern each had three first place finishes, but the Hatters scored six second place finishes to three for the Lancers. Those points added up to another Sabbagh tournament title for Danbury, but Bristol Eastern still put in a strong effort.

The Lancers take on Middletown on Thursday in a dual meet at the Keigwin School in Middletown at 6 p.m. Bristol Eastern competes at the Bristol Central Invitational this coming Saturday.
