We’re into a new month in the high school spring sports season, and the Bristol Central softball and baseball teams have something in common.
Both still haven’t lost a game this season. Central softball beat city rival Bristol Eastern, 10-2, on Monday night at Page Park to improve to 11-0 on the season. Central baseball knocked off Newington, 5-1, on Monday at Muzzy Field and improved to 10-0.
Another common theme for both teams is good pitching. Central softball got a combined two-hitter from Alex Sciarretto and Sophia Torreso. In baseball, Aiden Lopez and Frank Spirito teamed up for a one-hitter with seven strikeouts.
Central softball got a great effort out of its offense as well on Monday. Kaley Laird led the way with four hits and three stolen bases. For baseball, Ryan Ring was the catalyst with a 3-for-3 day that included two RBIs. Spirito and Anthony Santilli drove in a run apiece.
Central softball was supposed to play Tuesday against Glastonbury but the game was postponed to May 9. The Rams are scheduled to face Berlin under the lights of Sage Park on Wednesday at 7 o’clock. Earlier in the day, Central baseball is slated for a home game against Enfield at 4 p.m. at Muzzy. Both games are weather permitting.
