The Holy Cross boys’ basketball team bounced back from Friday night’s road loss to Crosby in a big way Tuesday night against league leader WCA.
The Crusaders erupted on offense and blew out the Spartans, 99-76, in the Timothy J. McDonald Gymnasium. Senior tri-captains Derone Fordham and Peyton Mullins combined for 48 of the 99 points. The scoring prowess of Fordham and Mullins, along with the all-around play of sophomore Elijah Parker, make Holy Cross a very difficult team to defend. Fordham tallied a career-high 31 points (three 3-pointers) while Mullins added 17 (four 3-pointers).
Fordham recorded 25 points in a Feb. 3 home win over St. Paul. The WCA and St. Paul games marked the fourth and fifth times that Fordham has scored 20 or more points in a game.
Mullins, who has been known throughout his career at Sacred Heart and Holy Cross as a sharpshooter, has made two or more 3-pointers in a game in each of the last five contests, including six against St. Paul.
Holy Cross (13-3) has won six of its last seven games since dropping two out of three against WCA, Ansonia (win) and Kennedy. The Crusaders are scheduled to host Conard-West Hartford of the Central Connecticut Conference on Saturday at 5 p.m.
