Former Holy Cross standout Michael Mallory saved his best for the second half of Saturday’s game against Le Moyne in Syracuse, N.Y.
Mallory poured in 21 of his game-high 28 points in the second half as the SCSU Owls claimed a 83-72 road win over the Dolphins. He was 9-of-13 from the floor in the second half. Mallory scored the first five points of the second half, giving SCSU a 44-37 edge.
Mallory came up with two more big baskets later in the second half. His 3, along with a trey from Isaiah McLeod, put the Owls up 67-58. Mallory then converted an old-fashioned three-point play and SCSU had a 70-58 advantage with 4:44 to go in the game.
Former Torrington standout Desmond Williams was big down the stretch from the free throw line. Williams hit 8-for-8 from the line in the final 1:20 to help seal the game.
SCSU improved to 10-3 (5-1 Northeast-10) with the win. The Owls return to the court on Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. home game against Saint Michael’s College.
