One year ago, Khadaijia Brooks entered rarefied air when she scored her 1,000th career point for Bristol Eastern High School. Brooks wound up being the school’s second leading scorer with 1,412 points. Brooks earned All-CCC South honors three times in her career.
That’s according to her Marshall University bio, where Brooks is a freshman on the women’s basketball team. It’s amazing the difference a year makes.
The adjustment to Division I college basketball is often a difficult one. Brooks isn’t the focal point of her team like she was at Eastern. Even so, she’s getting playing time as a freshman at a Division I school.
Brooks has played in all 12 Marshall games and averages 7.3 minutes per contest, according to stats on the team’s website. She averages 1.8 points and 2.3 rebounds per contest. Brooks has five steals, two blocks and eight assists to go against seven turnovers.
Her first point, scored on a foul shot, came in her first college game against Morehead State (Kentucky).
Brooks has a lineage of college basketball in her family (both parent played for Western Connecticut State University), and she has the desire to be on the court at the Division I level. Her experiences this year will only help her throughout her career at Marshall.
