Bristol 17s stay alive in Legion state tourney, face Waterford today

The Bristol Post 2 American Legion 17U baseball team has had success at the state level, claiming championships in 2011 and 2018, plus a title in the lone year of the Connecticut Elite Baseball Association in 2020.

If Bristol is to get to the state championship game this season, it will do so the hard way. Post 2 lost their first game of the Regional B bracket, 3-2, to Waterford on Sunday. Bristol stayed alive with a 6-4 win over Tri-County on Monday evening at Foran High School in Milford. That sets up a rematch with Waterford today at 5:30 p.m. at Jonathan Law High School, also in Milford.

Wolcott’s Bradyn Surreira went the first 5 ⅔ innings and was the winning pitcher against Tri-County. Bristol’s offense gave Surreira a quick 4-0 lead to work with. Bristol Eastern’s Randy Denoto blasted a bases-clearing double for the big hit of the top of the first inning.

Tri-County got to within 4-3 in the fifth inning, but Bristol responded with two more runs for insurance in the sixth. Tri-County scored the game’s last run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Plainville’s Jack Ericksen tossed the final 1 ⅓ innings and picked up the save.
