Porrini posts two top 10s at Nike nationals

Bristol Central track and field standout Frankie Porrini III didn’t just have a day to remember this past weekend.

He had two days to remember while competing at a national meet. Porrini competed in the Nike Outdoor Nationals on Saturday and Sunday at the famous Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon in Eugene. All Porrini did on Saturday was obliterate his own school record in the 2,000-meter championship race. His performance amazed his coach, Tamara Stafford-Kirk.

“BC T&F your coach is at a loss for words😂 Francis Porrini III is an All-American steeplechaser💪🏽 He destroyed his school record running 6:03.42🔥 This is an accomplishment we are all proud of! His team & his village is always behind him!Thank you❤️@BCHSprincipal @Coach_Bonilla_,” Stafford-Kirk tweeted.

That effort came on Saturday. The crazy part was that Porrini was far from done. On Sunday, Porrini ran in the emerging elite division of the 800 meters and won his heat with a new personal record time of 1:56.78. He finished ninth overall, edging out 10th place finisher Austin Desisto of Westford, Mass., by two-thousandths of a second (1:56.774 to 1:56.776).

“Way to get after it this weekend💪🏽 Your BC Ramily is so proud of you❤️ @BCHSprincipal @Coach_Bonilla_,” Stafford-Kirk tweeted.

Porrini definitely got after it. Two top 10 finishes, and that’s top 10 in the country, over two days is an incredible accomplishment.
