Wolcott girls dealing with back-to-back one-point losses, break until next game

The Wolcott girls basketball team’s season has been a roller coaster ride, to say the least.

The Eagles played their first three games on the road, losing to a strong Seymour team in the season opener before rebounding with wins over Career Magnet (New Haven) and Kennedy to improve to 2-1. Wolcott followed its two-game winning streak with a two-game losing streak to fall to 2-3. The worst part about the losing streak is that the losses have come by a combined two points.

Wolcott led for much of its Dec. 23 home game against undefeated Woodland before falling, 47-46. The Eagles played another close home game against another undefeated foe, Southington, in the John Rossi Holiday Tournament on Tuesday evening. Wolcott lost that game, 41-40. Amber Vincent had strong games in both losses, tallying 16 points against Woodland before posting 14 points and 10 rebounds against Southington. Julia Sullivan and Amanda Sullivan combined for 24 points and six 3-pointers against the Hawks while Mayci Abou Arrage contributed 16 points and seven rebounds against the Blue Knights.

Wolcott will have to wait at least another week to play its next game. The Eagles were slated to play at St. Paul on Thursday, but that game has been postponed. Wolcott’s next game could be potentially its third straight against an undefeated foe. The Eagles are slated to play Holy Cross (3-0), which hosts undefeated Woodland (5-0) on Thursday.
