The happiest local football team this week may well have been Kennedy. The Eagles defeated WCA, 14-6, on Friday night at Municipal Stadium and snapped a six-game losing streak.
Other winners in Week 10 were Crosby, Bristol Central and Bristol Eastern. Here’s what happened in the third-to-last week of the regular season:
THURSDAY
Crosby 62, Wilby 28: Michael Scott ran 22 times for 163 yards and touchdowns of 5, 2, 19 and 3 yards.
Tanner Leo completed 14-of-20 passes for 238 yards and touchdowns of 39 yards to Jashua Sanabria, 3 to Jeffery Burke, 9 to Michail Scott and 26 to Nevon Burke. Taji Blizzard Jr. had two interceptions, blocked a punt and recovered an onside kick.
Wilby (1-8) got 114 yards rushing and a touchdown on 18 carries from James Richards. Aaron James ran for 43 yards, including a 19-yard touchdown. James also threw for 216 yards and touchdowns of 43 and 77 yards to Jamare Hall. The Wildcats scored their first points on a safety.
Watertown 34, St. Paul 12: Isaiah Conner ran for a touchdown and Ryan Kilpatrick threw a touchdown pass to Erik Suzio for the Falcons, who fell to 2-6.
FRIDAY
Bristol Central 46, Plainville 0: Victor Rosa had 245 yards rushing and three touchdowns, and he added 79 yards passing and a touchdown for the Rams (8-1), who have won eight straight games.
Rosa ran for touchdowns of 4, 4 and 37 yards, and he connected with Ashton Zabka for a 31-yard score. Damion Glasper (59), Justin Despins (1) and Nik Salinas (63) also ran for touchdowns for Central. The Ram defense posted their second shutout of the season. Central blanked South Windsor, 21-0, back on Sept. 17. That win started the eight-game winning streak. The Rams play Bristol Eastern in the regular season finale on Thanksgiving morning at Muzzy Field. Central is fifth in the Class L playoff standings.
Bristol Eastern 54, Farmington 22: The Lancers ran for an astounding 453 yards and improved to 4-5 with the win.
Alex Marshall ran for 260 yards and scored on runs of 72, 5, 39 and 1 yard. Rayshon Andrews piled up 179 yards and touchdown runs of 64, 16 and 62 yards. Eastern faces Central at Muzzy Field on Thanksgiving morning.
Kennedy 14, WCA 6: Damar Byrd ran for a touchdown and Matthew Velasquez returned a fumble for a score for the Eagles (2-6).
The Spartans (3-5) got a short touchdown pass from Carmelo Mojica to Zyaire Ettson.
SATURDAY
Thames River 26, Wilcox/Kaynor 10: The co-op fell to 0-8 on the season in their home finale at Falcon Field.
