On Tuesday, I wrote a story about the 28-point deficit the Wolcott football team erased in a 48-41 home victory over Seymour in 2013. Here’s a story about another comeback.
On this date in 2018, Holy Cross came back from a 23-point deficit to stun Waterbury Career Academy, 57-38, at Municipal Stadium’s Ray Snyder Sr. Field. The Crusaders trailed the Spartans, 30-7, at halftime. Holy Cross responded by scoring 36 unanswered points in less than five and a half minutes. A 30-7 deficit turned into a 43-30 lead. The Crusaders wound up outscoring the Spartans by a 44-8 margin in the second half.
Alex Ward ran for 227 yards and five touchdowns. The Holy Cross offensive line and wide receivers created big holes for Ward, and he erupted. The Crusaders wound up pulling off the 11th biggest comeback in sate history, according to the Record Book.
Here’s my original story from that game.
