Bristol Eastern girls volleyball rallies, sweeps Bristol Central

The Bristol Central girls volleyball team lost the first two sets of Monday night’s match at Bristol Eastern, but they had a 24-16 lead in the third set.

That’s when Lancer senior captain Abby Jones stepped up to the service line. Ten points later, Eastern was celebrating a 26-24 third set win, and a 3-0 match victory, over Central.

“With every point the crowd got louder and each time she put the serve where she wanted,” athletic coordinator John Stavens wrote on the Bristol Eastern athletics Twitter account. “Then the girls defended well, passed well and Hannah (Webber) dropped BOMBS!! GAMES!!”

Jones wound up with two aces, 30 assists and five digs. Hannah Webber tallied 21 kills, five aces and five digs while Lauren Bender added two aces, seven kills and 10 digs. Lilli Lowe had two kills, two blocks and three digs while Alyssa Adorno tallied four aces. Sarah Lacouture recorded one ace and 10 digs and freshman Emily Valentine had one dig for the Lancers, who improved to 13-5 with one match left in the regular season against New Britain on Friday at home at 5 p.m.

Bristol Central fell to 14-5 with one match left in the regular season against Conard on Wednesday at home at 6:30 p.m.
