The Bristol Senior American Legion baseball came into the weekend with a chance to take care of business inside the friendly confines of Muzzy Field.

Post 2 did just that, beating Naugatuck and Simsbury to improve to 8-4 overall. Playing as the road team, Bristol scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning to defeat Naugatuck, 6-3, on Saturday. On Sunday, Post 2 jumped all over Simsbury and won, 11-1.

In the Naugatuck game, each team scored a run in the third inning. Bristol scored in the top of the fifth inning for a 2-1 lead, but Naugatuck tied the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Post 2 erupted for four runs in the eighth and yielded just one in the bottom frame to claim the win. Roberto Cruz tossed 2 1/3 innings in relief of Michael Lorenzetti and picked up the win. Cruz also brought home the go-ahead run on a bunt. Ryan Fradette was 3-for-4 with two RBI, according to a story from Michael Letendre of The Bristol Edition.

Bristol and Simsbury were scoreless through two innings Sunday, but Post 2 scored twice in the bottom of the third. Bristol scored three runs apiece in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to blow the game open. Simsbury scored its only run in the sixth. Matthew Beaucar went the first five innings and claimed the win. Alexander Canzellarini tossed two innings of one-run relief.

Cruz (4-0) and Beaucar (3-0) have combined for seven of Bristol’s eight wins. Post 2 is scheduled to play games against Newington, West Hartford, Berlin and Avon over the next seven days.
