First basketball games of 2021 H.S. season this week

Today is the official start of the 2021 high school basketball season in Connecticut, but the locals will have to wait until Wednesday, or later, to tip off.

The boys and girls basketball teams for Bristol Central, Bristol Eastern and Kaynor Tech open on Wednesday. The Central boys, led by 7-foot-1 junior star Donovan Clingan, host Avon at 5:30 p.m. The Eastern boys are home against Farmington at 6:45, and the Kaynor boys are on the road against Wilcox Tech-Meriden at 7. As for the girls, Kaynor hosts Wilcox at 4, Central is at Avon at 6, and Eastern is at Farmington at 6:45.

Nearly all of the other local teams open the following week. The exception is the Wolcott girls, who are dealing with a COVID-19 issue and don’t play until Monday, Feb. 22 against Naugatuck at home at 6 p.m., according to their CIAC schedule.

WORTH NOTING: The first matchups of the season between Bristol Central and Bristol Eastern are scheduled for this Friday. The Central girls host Eastern at 5:30, and the Eastern boys are home against Central at 6:45.
