Flowers in NCAA Top 10 in steals per game

I was watching the end of the UConn men’s basketball game against St. John’s on Sunday afternoon when a familiar name scrolled across the ticker on the bottom of the FOX broadcast.

Under NCAA leaders in steals per game, there was Ty Flowers. The former Sacred Heart High star was ranked ninth at 2.7 steals per contest. That is also first in the Northeast Conference for the Long Island University redshirt senior. It was pretty cool seeing a former local star’s name pop up on a national broadcast.

Flowers is second in the NEC in points per game (18.7), tied for second in offensive rebounds per game with teammate Eral Penn (3.17), fifth in rebounds per game (8.0) and seventh in minutes per game (33.67).

At 4-2, LIU has played the second least amount of games in the conference behind only Merrimack College (1-3, four total games).
