Bristol U17 takes its shot at a CT Elite Baseball Association championship today when it plays Ellington at 1 p.m. at Muzzy Field.
Bristol, the top seed in the eight-team, single elimination tournament, went 16-2 in the regular season. They knocked off No. 8 Naugatuck, 2-0, in the first round on Friday, then took down No. 4 Wallingford, 3-1, in the semifinal round on Saturday.
Ellington, the No. 3 seed, played in Division 3 and went 14-4 in the regular season. They defeated No. 6 West Hartford, 5-3, in the first round on Friday, then blasted No. 7 NCL (Windsor, Windsor Locks, Suffield), 21-5, in the semifinal round on Saturday.
In the win over Naugatuck, Roberto Cruz pitched the first 6.1 innings and improved to 6-0 on the season. Dylan Woodsome got the last two outs on just seven pitches for the save. The pair combined to give up just four hits. Bristol scored both of its runs in the sixth in what was a solid pitchers’ duel.
Woodsome made the start against Wallingford and went the distance on 80 pitches. He gave up a run on three hits and improved to 5-0. Bristol scored a run in the bottom of the first, then tacked on two more in the third. Wallingford scored its lone run in the fifth.
