This date in history: St. Paul softball upsets Seymour, delights home fans

St. Paul softball picked up its 13th straight win on this date during the 2018 season, but this victory was special.

The Falcons upended No. 1 Seymour, 4-3, at St. Paul Catholic High School. St. Paul’s Abby Poirot threw a complete game and also hit a two-run home run in the win. Jessica Persechino homered, and Katelynn Ouellette had an RBI single.

The runs driven in by Persechino and Ouellette were key, because they put the Falcons ahead, 4-1, in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Wildcats pulled to within one run, 4-3, on a two-run home run by Beca Findley in the top of the seventh. Poirot was able to close the game out, and St. Paul players, coaches and fans celebrated the big victory.

Here’s my story from that game.
