Then there were four: Connecticut one of few states not to cancel spring sports

There was breaking news out of Vermont on Thursday, and it was another blow to the hopes of having any spring sports this year.

Vermont became the 46th state to cancel spring sports because of the COVID-19 pandemic. That leaves Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and North Dakota as the only states in the country who have not canceled spring sports. The decision to cancel spring sports in Vermont was made by the Vermont Principals’ Association and its Activities Standards Committee, according to a post on the organization’s website.

Connecticut spring sports are indefinitely suspended and games wouldn’t begin until June, if any are played. There will be no CIAC-sponsored postseason tournaments. The CIAC has said that any opportunities for spring sports should be maximized for all and done within individual schools and leagues. That decision was made by the CIAC Board of Control on April 9.
