It’s been a strong freshman season for former St. Paul and Taft School standout Tyler Arbuckle at Saint Anselm College.
Arbuckle, a Northeast-10 Conference all-rookie team performer, helped the Hawks win three games in the league tournament and earn a berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament. Arbuckle was named to the NE-10 all-tournament team for his efforts.
Saint Anselm faced Pace University in the quarterfinal round of the NE-10 tournament and picked up an 82-77 win. Arbuckle scored 14 points in the victory.
In the semifinal round, Saint Anselm defeated Franklin Pierce University, 80-66. Arbuckle tallied 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-5 from three-point range. He added four rebounds and a steal to his totals.
Saint Anselm took on the University of New Haven in the NE-10 final, and the game needed overtime before a winner was decided. The Hawks held off the Chargers, 65-63, to win the tournament and earn an NCAA berth. Arbuckle played 44 out of 45 possible minutes and scored 18 points. He was 8-of-13 from the field, including 2-of-6 from three-point range. Arbuckle added four rebounds and a blocked shot to his stat sheet. He came down with a key rebound off the missed front end of a one-and-one with 22 seconds remaining and the Hawks down, 54-52. Saint Anselm tied the game, 54-54, on a Chris Paul layup with five seconds to play in regulation, then won in overtime.
