The Sacred Heart boys basketball team has seen many a big game during its 122-game NVL win streak, but tonight’s showdown at Alumni Hall is different.
This time, the 18-0 Hearts will face a fellow unbeaten, the 18-0 Naugatuck Greyhounds, in front of a sold-out crowd at Alumni Hall. It’s been hot in that gym at practice, never mind a game with a big crowd. This crowd will be huge for the 6:45 tip.
Sacred Heart has thrived on offense, with four starters averaging in double figures. Junior Lorenzo Washington has become a major scoring threat, and one that every opponent has to pay special attention to. Caleb Sampson and Trevahn Duncan can also score. For the Hearts, the wildcard will be 7-foot center Connor Tierney. Tierney’s tolerance for pain may determine how much he plays tonight. He sprained his right ankle in the win over Holy Cross last Thursday.
Naugatuck brings its own threats to the table. The Greyhounds are quick, they are talented, and they play well together. Naugatuck will provide the toughest challenge that Sacred Heart has seen this season. Defense will be a big key for both teams.
Check out The Hoop Zone for a ton of preview information about tonight’s game. My boss, Lee Lewis, did a great job putting that together, so check it out and enjoy!
