There are plenty of times in college sports where freshmen take time to get acclimated to the next level of play.

Former Wolcott softball standout Kaitlynn Ouellette has encountered no such troubles at the plate so far in her first season with the University of Saint Joseph. Ouellette was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Softball Rookie of the Week on Monday after a tremendous effort over a four-game span.

Ouellette hit .417 with a .500 on-base percentage and .667 slugging percentage. She had five hits, including a double and triple, and drove in three runs. Ouellette also pitched and tossed a complete game against Salem State where she allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits with eight strikeouts.

For the season, Ouellette is slashing a robust .414/.455/.621 with 12 hits (2 doubles, 2 triples), eight runs scored and eight RBI. In the circle, Ouellette has pitched in four games and is 2-1 with a pair of complete games.
