Bulldogs ready for a break, looking to get healthy

The Crosby boys basketball team will go seven days without playing a game, and the Bulldogs could use a break.

Crosby has played four games in nine days. During most of that time, the Bulldogs have not been whole. Injuries and illness kept three starters out of the lineup in games against St. Paul on Monday and East Hartford on Friday. The Bulldogs were able to knock off the Falcons, 64-47, in Bristol on Monday. On Friday, Crosby battled but lost to East Hartford, 66-59. The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 2-2 on the season.

Bulldog senior Justin Davis led the way with 24 points against the Hornets, and he spent every last drop of energy that he had. Davis got major help from freshman Jason Robinson. Robinson, who was filling the place of a missing starter, dropped 23 points. Crosby got just 12 points from the five other players who stepped on the floor. One of those players was 6-foot-8 freshman C.J. Wilson, who had six points and altered some shots on defense in his time off of the bench. Wilson is not a big scoring threat at this point in his career, however, and the Bulldogs needed more offensive consistency against East Hartford. The Bulldogs had their chances against the Hornets, but couldn’t get the shots to dropped or turned the ball over in key situations.

A positive for Crosby is that Friday’s game is only the fourth one of the season. The Bulldogs would rather be healthy against their NVL opponents in January and February. After the seven-day break from games, Crosby hosts Waterbury Career Academy on Friday at 7 p.m.
