Wolcott girls basketball grabs third straight win

The Wolcott girls basketball team grabbed a 60-53 victory over Watertown in its first game of the fourth annual John Rossi Memorial Tournament on Thursday.

Was it closer than it probably should have been? Yes, given Wolcott saw a 16-point third quarter lead cut to just two points, 50-48, with 3:49 to play to in the fourth quarter.

Was it the best game that they have played this season? No. The Eagles had too many turnovers and committed way too many fouls.

Was it a win? Yes. At the end of the day, a win is a win and Wolcott has now won three straight games. The Eagles play Southington (3-1) in the Rossi tournament final today at 6 p.m.

Alison LeClerc led the Eagles with 10 points. Nine different players scored at least four points in the win. They were LeClerc, Adriana Ferrucci (9), Mariah Grady (8), Emiah Soto (7), Hannah Francisco (6), Bathsheba Rascoe (6), Vlora Alka (5), Emma Dadonna (5) and Mayci Abou-Arrage (4).

The play of the game was turned in by Alka, who rebounded a Wolcott miss, put it in the basket, and was fouled. Alka completed the three-point play and gave the Eagles a 53-48 lead with 3:11 to play.
