Dean College junior Jordan Booker was at it again in the past week, and the former Crosby star earned the New England Collegiate Conference’s top honor for his efforts.
Booker played nearly 79 of 80 minutes over two games, and his averages were awesome: 30 points; 5.5 assists; and 4.5 rebounds. He was named NECC Player of the Week for the third time this season. Booker was twice chosen for the award last month, which were announced on Jan. 14 and Jan. 22.
Booker shot an awesome 56 percent from the field, including 55 percent from the three-point line. In the first game of the week against Lasell College on Jan. 29 (86-69 win), Booker tallied 23 points on 10-of-17 shooting to go along with six assists and five rebounds.
In the second game against Newbury College on Feb. 2 (102-95 win), Booker tied a career-high with 37 points. He buried seven 3-pointers, dished out five assists, grabbed four rebounds, and recorded two steals. Booker also had a key blocked shot in the final seconds of the victory.
Booker is tied for first in the NECC in scoring at 22.8 points per game and leads the conference in 3-pointers made with 74. He is second in three-point percentage at 47.4.
Hope Johnsky, Western Connecticut State swimming and diving
The former Bristol Eastern standout had a big meet for the Colonials in the regular season finale, and she was recognized by the Little East Conference for her performance. She was named LEC Rookie Swimmer of the Week.
Johnsky was part of not one, not two, not three, but four first place finishes for WCSU in its 136-117 loss to Westfield State University last Saturday. She took home the top spot in the 100-meter individual medley (1:10.02), 200 breaststroke (2:46.91), and 500 freestyle (6:05.88), and she swam the third leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay (150.62).
Next up for Johnsky and her Colonial teammates is the LEC championships, which take place Saturday starting at noon at UMass-Dartmouth.
Chris LeBeau, Southern Connecticut State indoor track and field
The sophomore and former Bristol Eastern standout helped the Owls finish third in the New England Championships last Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston.
SCSU was the highest non-Division I finisher behind first place UConn and second place Northeastern. LeBeau was a large part of the success that the Owls had. He ran in the 3000m and finished third with a time of 8:29.63.
LeBeau helped the distance medley relay take third place with a time of 10:00.12. He was the final leg of the relay, running after teammates Steven Cugini, Aren Seeger and Terrell Patterson (Kaynor Tech).
SCSU returns to Boston on Saturday for the Valentine Invitational.
Haley Knox, Eastern Connecticut State indoor track and field
The senior and former Bristol Central runner helped the Warriors capture first place at the Panther Invitational this past Saturday on the campus of Plymouth State University.
Knox took second place in the 800m with a time of 2:26.86. She also helped the 4x400m relay to a fourth place finish (4:34.23). Knox ran the first leg, followed by teammates Christina Gosselin, Maggie Dulak and Lauren Bresson.
ECSU was one of four Little East Conference teams to compete in the Panther Invitational. The Warriors compete at Yale University’s Giegenback Invitational on Saturday.
Rashana Siders, American International College basketball
The junior and former Holy Cross standout has played in all 23 games, including 16 starts. Siders scored 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting in a 64-52 home victory over Pace University on Wednesday night.
Siders ranks second on the team in made field goals (96) and made three-point field goals (35). She is third on the team in points per game (10.9), free throw percentage (72.7) and made foul shots (24). Siders averages 27.8 minutes per game and has 67 assists to 45 turnovers. She has 18 steals on the season.
AIC heads to Syracuse on Saturday to play Le Moyne College. The game starts at 1 p.m.
