Bristol Eastern girls volleyball stays undefeated with thrilling win over RHAM

The Bristol Eastern and RHAM girls volleyball teams battled back-and-forth in a battle of undefeated Class L titans on Wednesday evening.

The Lancers and Sachems traded sets for the first four sets. Eastern took the first set, 25-18, then RHAM won the second, 25-20. The Lancers claimed the third set, 25-17, but the Sachems won the fourth by the same score.

It came down to the fifth set, and Eastern topped RHAM, 15-10, to take the match, 3-2. The Lancers improved to 15-0 while the Sachems fell to 12-1. The two teams ahead of Eastern in the Class L state tournament standings, Naugatuck and Guilford, lost for the first time on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Lancers are now the top-ranked team in the Class L standings.

Zoe Lowe led Eastern with 22 kills. Hannah Webber had 12 kills, Ryley Plourde added eight kills, and Brooke Dorsio chipped in seven kills. Lowe had three aces while Bender added two aces. Dorsio and Ariana Caucci had an ace apiece.

Plourde led a big Lancer effort at the net with six blocks while Lowe tallied three and Webber added one. Leah Chipman passed out 47 assists, Bender had six digs, and both Lowe and Bender tallied 30 serve-receives with few errors. Lowe made a single error and Bender had two. Dorsio had 17 serve-receives with just a single error.
