Fitzpatrick named defensive MVP for Team Nutmeg in football all-star game

Bristol Central’s Justus Fitzpatrick had a day to remember at Saturday’s Super 100 high school football senior all-star game.

Fitzpatrick came up with an interception on a diving catch during Team Nutmeg’s 41-21 win over Team Constitution at Veterans Stadium in New Britain. For his efforts, Fitzpatrick was named defensive MVP for Team Nutmeg. Fitzpatrick also played on special teams. Bristol Central teammate Ryan Rodriguez suited up for Team Constitution on the defensive line and special teams.

Fitzpatrick and Rodriguez were just two of several local players who took part in the all-star game. Holy Cross’ Qaron Brown suited up for Team Nutmeg, as did Wolcott’s Dean Howell. WCA’s Tyrese Gallant and Jonathan Matos were on the roster for Nutmeg as well.

WCA’s Mark Cummings joined Rodriguez on Team Constitution. Rodriguez was in on a few tackles on defense for Constitution.

Nutmeg was ahead 20-6 in the second quarter when Fitzpatrick read a pass from the Constitution quarterback, then dove and picked it off. Nutmeg scored a touchdown on the ensuing possession to go ahead 27-6. Nutmeg led 27-13 at halftime.

Howell helped spring game MVP Raquan Tompkins of East Hartford for a 55-yard touchdown run and a 34-13 Nutmeg lead early in the third quarter.
