Edward Williams Jr. captures New England gold in hurdles

Sacred Heart senior standout Edward Williams Jr. can call himself the best 110m hurdle runner in New England after Saturday’s performance at the Thornton Academy in Saco, Maine.

Williams won gold in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.23 seconds during the 74th New England Interscholastic Track and Field Championships. Williams also ran in the 200m dash, where he finished seventh (22.56).

There were four other top 10 finishes from area athletes. Kennedy senior Tariq Phillips took fifth in the 100m dash (11.26) and ninth in the 200m dash (22.74); Wilby senior Leonardo Da Graca was fifth in the triple jump (44’9.75″); and Bristol Central junior Jose Ramirez took sixth in the 800m (1:56.69).

Wolcott junior Kathryn Rodrigues finished 17th in the 1600m (5:10.83).
