Sacred Heart senior track and field star Edward Williams Jr. was just .08 second off of an indoor season sweep of the 55-meter hurdles.
Williams ran the hurdles in 7.47 seconds at Saturday’s New England Interscholastic Indoor Track & Field Championships, which was second to Acton-Boxborough Regional (Mass.) senior Adam Yang’s 7.39. Williams had won the 55-meter hurdles in the other seven meets that he had competed in this season.
Williams’ personal best in the event was the 7.39 on Jan. 12 at the 37th Yale Interscholastic Track Classic. Saturday was the fourth time in eight indoor meets that Williams ran the 55-meter hurdles in less than 7.50 seconds. Yang was .01 second off of his personal best time of 7.38, which he ran at the MIAA Division I Championships on Feb. 14.
Next up for Williams and Sacred Heart is the New Balance Nationals Indoor meet on March 8-10 at the Armory Track & Field Center in New York City.
